The heaviest snow in Teller County rarely arrives in January — it comes in March, wet and stacked and dropped overnight along the Rampart Range. Ground Control Inc. is out in it before four, plowing driveways and lots across Woodland Park, shoveling walks down to bare concrete and laying ice melt where the morning shade will hold things slick. By afternoon the sun has done the rest and the pavement steams. Come summer the same routes get mowed, trimmed and edged, with aeration and cleanups bracketing the short green season. Two very different kinds of early morning, one idea behind both: the way out should be clear before anyone needs it.
