Everything green in Woodland Park is borrowed from snowmelt — the same water that works its way down toward Trout Creek and out past the reservoirs north of town. Clearwater landscaping mows with that in mind, cutting at a height that lets the grass shade its own roots, aerating so what falls actually soaks in rather than running off, overseeding thin ground before the dry heat of late June. Trimming and edging give a yard its outline; spring and fall cleanups clear the needle mat that would otherwise smother the crown. Thin air and hard Colorado sun ask more of a lawn at this elevation than most people expect, and answering that well is the whole craft. A deep, even stand of grass up here is worth every bit of the attention it takes.
