Snow Shovelers

About Snow Shovelers

Most snow gets moved by trucks, but the last ten feet — the steps, the deck, the path to the woodpile, the doorway a blade can never reach — gets moved by hand. Snow Shovelers does that part. It is early work, usually, in the blue half hour before sunrise after a squall has come through overnight, when the whole world is silent except the scrape of a shovel on plank stairs. Decks take on loads that want taking down, and walkways glaze over where the roof drips and freeze solid again by dark. Done properly, a cleared path is a small daily kindness: you step out for wood or the mail and simply go. That is the entire idea.
