Greyrock stands northwest of here, a granite dome above the Poudre Canyon that holds snow on its shaded side long after the plains have gone brown. Greyrock Handyman Services takes its name from that country and does its winter work down on the flats, clearing driveways, walks and lots around Wellington after a storm banks against the mountains and spills east. The plains catch the tail of those systems — less depth than the canyon, more wind, and a crust by morning that a shovel bounces off. So the trucks roll early, while the snow is still moveable, and come back later for the drifts that rebuild behind a fence line.
