Byers Peak catches the first light over the valley, and on mornings after a storm that light lands on an awful lot of unplowed driveway. Neils Lunceford works Tabernash winters, plowing, shoveling walks and entries, pushing banks back off the turnarounds and laying de-icer where the shaded ruts glaze over. Grand County snow is dry and it drifts, so a driveway cleared at midnight may need a second look at dawn, and it gets one. Seasonal routes run straight through from the first October dusting to the heavy wet drifts of May. The finish is always the same picture: a clean ribbon of gravel or asphalt running out to US 40.
