The heavy snow in this country does not arrive in December. It comes in March, wet and dense, bending the pines and loading the spruce until the branches lie on the ground. Kentscapes is out in it before four, when the neighborhood is still one unbroken white surface and the plow lamps are the only color on the street. Driveways get opened, walks get cleared to the pavement, and the packed ridge at the end of the apron gets broken up so the melt has somewhere to go. By the time Stonegate is awake and the sun is working on the roofs, the streets look like an ordinary morning, which is the whole point of the night.
