On a clear evening the Flat Tops hold the last pink light long after the south side of Steamboat Springs has gone blue and cold. RAI Enterprises Inc works the hours after that — plowing driveways and lots along the Walton Creek side and beyond, clearing walks, keeping ice off approaches while the temperature slides into the teens and lower. Snow here does not politely melt off between storms; it accumulates all winter, so what gets pushed in December still has to have somewhere to sit in March. They plan for that, stacking and hauling with the whole season in view. Come morning the pavement is showing, and nobody has to give it a thought.
