Saturday morning along the Yampa River Core Trail: runners, a heron standing in the shallows, and somewhere behind the willows a mower going in straight lines. Lawn Lady keeps the yards that back onto the water and plenty more besides — mowing and trimming through summer, cleanups at both ends, then plowing and shoveling once those same back yards go white and silent. There is pride in a lawn that looks intentional: even height, clean edges, nothing left lying in the beds. Winter work is the same instinct pointed at snow — walks opened to their full width, drives cleared before the day begins. One property, two seasons, both taken seriously.
