By two o'clock on an August afternoon the thunderheads have stacked up over the foothills west of Sheridan, and everyone working outside starts watching the sky. Hernandez's Landscaping Service LLC works the morning hard for exactly that reason — mowing, trimming, beds cleaned and edged, clippings blown off the drive — so a yard is finished before the first fat drops come down Federal. After a storm the streets steam, the grass goes an impossible green, and the work shows. The magpies come back to the wet lawns as if they had been waiting on them. Ordinary lots, tended week after week, are what make a town look looked-after.
