Sedalia sits right where Plum Creek comes down to meet the highway, a small crossroads with the Rampart Range standing up dark and timbered behind it. Storms slide off that range and settle into the creek bottom, which is why winter mornings here start with a plow: driveways cut open, parking areas cleared, walks shoveled and treated before the first pickup rolls through town. We work the long rural drives off CO 67 and US 85 as carefully as the short ones, because out here a blocked lane means a whole day lost. Cold air pools in the valley overnight, so we come back for the refreeze rather than call it done at dawn. The best version of this job is a neighbor stepping outside, seeing bare pavement, and not having to think about it at all.
