Sawpit is named for the old way of cutting lumber by hand over a pit, so it feels fitting that the sound of careful cutting still belongs to this tiny town beside the San Miguel. Sawpit Tree Company carries that spirit forward with tree care among the handful of homes strung along Highway 145 beneath steep, forested slopes. Spruce, fir and streamside cottonwoods crowd close here, and thoughtful pruning lets in light, lifts limbs off rooftops and keeps the canopy strong.
