Just up the road from Roxborough Park, the South Platte comes out of Waterton Canyon cold and quick, and the whole neighborhood lives on the same water it carries. That shapes how we mow: a cut set high enough to shade its own roots, edges kept crisp, trimming done close so nothing is wasted on grass that will not use it. In July we are out while the canyon still holds night air; by December we are plowing the same drives and clearing the walks so a morning walk to the car is a walk, not a slide. The oak brush goes copper, the sandstone goes rose, and the lawns in between hold their line if someone tends them. We like leaving a yard that looks like it belongs to the canyon rather than fighting it.
