Ridgway Reservoir turns hard blue in July and steel gray by November, and the valley below it changes work at about the same rate. Horizon Maintenance follows both halves — mowing, trimming and cleanups while the grass is running, then plowing drives and lots and clearing walks once the storms start dropping down the Uncompahgre. Ice treatment goes on the shaded pitch of a drive where the morning sun never quite lands. Summer here is short and generous, winter long and plainspoken, and the work simply changes shape between them. Then the reservoir goes blue again, the mowers come back out, and the year starts over.
