A chinook can come over in the middle of the night and change Pueblo's mind about winter entirely — snow at ten, bare ground and warm wind by morning. Romo Landscaping works those hours anyway, plowing driveways and lots and shoveling walks along Northern Avenue and the streets running off it, because a storm does not care what the wind intends to do later. Dry mountain snow moves easy under a blade, then packs to glass wherever a tire has already crossed it, so the salt goes down before that happens rather than after. Getting there early is the whole craft; a lot cleared at three is a lot nobody slips on at seven. By sunrise the pavement is dark and wet and the day simply goes ahead as planned.
