Seven o'clock on a June morning, sun just clearing the mesa east of town, and the air over Pueblo West is still cool enough to hold the smell of cut grass. CJ's Lawn and Garden Service takes that hour — mowing, trimming, edging, and working the beds where somebody has planted against a dry climate and made it stick. A yard that has been tended looks different from a yard that has merely been cut, and the difference shows at the walkway and the fence posts. When winter lays snow across the same properties, the work changes to plowing and clearing, driveways and paths opened while the powder is still loose. Pueblo West, Pueblo and the small communities nearby are all on the route.
