Norrie lies far up the Fryingpan Valley above Ruedi Reservoir, where a settlement once stood beside the old Colorado Midland rail line and the river still runs dark and quick between snowy banks. Winter comes early to this narrow canyon and stays late, and by mid-afternoon the sun has already slipped behind the ridgelines. Aspen Plowing clears snow here, plowing driveways and lanes so homes and cabins along the river stay within reach through the storms. When a fresh blade-width of road opens through the drifts, bare aspen trunks pale on either side, it feels as though the valley has been handed back. That is the reward of plowing in Norrie: the hush of the canyon, and a way through it.
