The Peak to Peak Highway runs north out of Nederland along the spine of the range, and every property off it sits on rock that had other plans. Dig Excavation Inc. works with that ground rather than around it — grading and leveling yards, mowing and trimming what grows on them, edging the drives, and clearing brush and debris in spring and fall. A lawn set on properly shaped ground sheds runoff instead of pooling it, and that shows the first time snowmelt comes through. A slope that drains right and a strip of green that stays put are worth something up here. Most of the work amounts to those two things, and they are enough.
