About Bad Mountain Tree Service, LLC

Every March the sandhill cranes drop into the fields around Monte Vista, and for a few weeks the entire San Luis Valley sounds like it is talking. Bad Mountain Tree Service, LLC works this flat bright country between the San Juans and the Sangres — pruning the cottonwoods and elms that shelter the farmyards, trimming out winter-killed wood, and removing trees that could not take another season at seven and a half thousand feet. The sun here is fierce and the nights are cold, and a tree is either tough or gone. When a storm crosses the valley and lays a limb across a lane, the cleanup happens the same day: cut short, loaded out, the lane open by supper. In the evening the mountains go pink on both sides at once and the yards are in order.
