Upslope storms come into Milliken from the northeast, gray and low, and they lay down the heavy wet snow that bends the Big Thompson willows and buries a driveway in a hurry. Alpine Ventures clears it — plowing residential drives and lots, clearing walkways down to the pavement, and hauling back the ridge the county plow leaves across the apron. Heavy snow is honest work; you feel every pass, and you can see exactly what you did. By the time Longs Peak shows itself again over the fields west of town, the routes are open. Milliken and the nearby towns of Johnstown, Platteville and Gilcrest are all on the map.
