Russell's Tree Service

About Russell's Tree Service

Merino is a small town on the South Platte with a line of cottonwoods for a horizon and a great deal of sky above it. Russell's Tree Service keeps those trees in working order — pruning young ones into a shape that will stand up to plains wind, trimming dead wood out of the big river-bottom crowns, and removing trunks that have hollowed at the base. Winter comes flat and hard along the Platte, and an ice load will find every weakness a tree has been hiding all year. Afterward it is saw work and stacking until the drive is open and the ground is clear. Out here a good shade tree is a hundred-year project, and that is exactly why it gets looked after.
