Down in the Big Thompson bottoms near Namaqua the cottonwoods let go all at once, and by mid-October the yards along the river run ankle-deep in yellow. Tegridy Lawn Service is in there with the cleanup — leaves hauled off, beds cleared out, the last cut of the year taken low so nothing mats down under the first snow. The rest of the calendar is the steady part: mowing, edging, trimming, aeration and feeding through the long bright months when grass grows fast under all that sun. Loveland asks a lot of a lawn and pays it back in green if somebody stays on it. Every visit ends with the concrete blown clean, because a good cut looks better with empty walks around it.
