West of town the Devil's Backbone stands out of the prairie like a row of stone fins, and on a January morning the sun comes over its far shoulder while the plow is already several driveways deep. A Step Above Property Services, LLC works both halves of the Loveland year — snow pushed off drives and lots, walks scraped down to bare concrete before the coffee has cooled, then mowing, trimming and cleanups once the ground lets go in spring. Winter here is a bluffer: weeks of brown grass and blue sky, then a storm that shows up overnight and asks for everything at once. The pride is in being out ahead of it, in a driveway that is simply done when somebody opens the front door. In July the same properties get straight lines and clean corners, the summer version of the same habit.
