The wind that comes out of the Big Thompson Canyon doesn't ask permission — it arrives at the west edge of Loveland around two in the morning and rearranges everything the storm left behind. Limbs and Things LLC works those hours, plowing driveways and clearing walks and porch steps while the town is still dark and the streetlights are the only things awake. There is always ice hiding under the drift where the sun won't reach until eleven, so it gets treated before anyone's boot finds it. By the time the foothills go pink, the pavement is black and wet and the shovel marks are gone. Come daylight the only sign anybody came is that the car pulls out easy.
