Loveland was laid out among beet fields and irrigation laterals, and the old grid is still there under the neighborhoods — streets running square, blocks running true, lawns squared up to the walk. Aggie lawn care mows with that grain, keeping the lines honest across yards in town and out toward Berthoud and Johnstown. Late August turns the valley dusty and the grass stubborn, so the deck comes up a notch and the clippings stay down to hold whatever moisture is left. Trimming around fence posts, mailboxes and the flare of a cottonwood trunk is slow work, and it is the whole difference between a mowed yard and a finished one. Fall cleanups close the season, and the square-cornered business starts again with the first warm week of April.
