Larkspur sits near the crest of the Palmer Divide, the high ground between the South Platte and Arkansas watersheds, and when a spring upslope storm stalls against it the town can collect far more snow than Denver does. Larson Excavating takes on snow removal when those heavy March snows land, an excavating outfit bringing dirt-moving determination to deep, wet drifts. Spring snow here is dense and sticky, the kind that bends fences and seals garage doors, and moving it calls for muscle and method. Under a midday sky still spitting flakes, the drive slowly emerges in clean, straight-walled cuts. A day or two later the strong spring sun will soften the edges, and the meadows will be showing through again.
