Lena Gulch runs through Lakewood with a line of cottonwoods along it, and every October those trees let go all at once, filling the yards downwind. Tanglewood Tree and Lawn LLC handles what falls — raking, blowing and hauling the leaves off the grass before they mat down and smother it. The rest of the year is mowing and edging, trimming close where a lawn meets a trunk or a fence post, keeping the turf even under all that shade. The season opens with a spring clearing-out and closes with the rake, and the grass comes through both looking level and awake. There is a plain pleasure in a yard raked bare with the cottonwoods still going gold overhead.
