Six in the morning on the alphabet streets — Ames, Benton, Carr — and the air is still cool enough to work in. ACE Lawn Care starts early in Eiber and the blocks around it, while the grass is dewed and the sun is only a rumor out over the plains. Mowing, string-trimming along fence lines and foundations, edging where turf meets the sidewalk, then a sweep so the walk is cleaner than it was found. By the time the neighborhood is pouring coffee, three lawns are finished and the stripes are still bright. There is a particular satisfaction in a street that wakes up already tidy.
