Just north of La Salle the Cache la Poudre finishes its long run and gives itself to the South Platte, and a line of cottonwoods marks the seam of it across Weld County. LCSR keeps lawns through the growing months in that river country — mowing, string trimming, edging along drives and walks, and clearing the yard when the season turns over. Evening is the best hour for it: the wind lies down, the sprinklers start ticking, and a fresh-cut lawn holds the last of the light. Turf on the plains earns its green, and it's a fine thing to help it hold on. The mower goes quiet and the smell stays another hour.
