Kurtzer's

About Kurtzer's

Morning in Haxtun starts with center pivots ticking slowly around the Phillips County fields, corn and wheat stretching east toward the Nebraska line. Kurtzer's brings that farm-country attention to the lawns in town, cutting and edging yards beneath shade trees planted long ago to break the wind. A Haxtun summer can bake the grass by mid-afternoon, so the early hours are prime time: dew still on the blades, a mourning dove on the wire, a fresh edge drawn along the sidewalk. Done well, a yard here looks as orderly as the rows outside of town, straight and even and full of promise. The payoff is a house fronted by cool, tidy green from June through September.
