Hartsel Dirt Work

About Hartsel Dirt Work

Near Hartsel, the Middle and South Forks of the South Platte meet and wander off together through the broad grass basin of South Park. Hartsel Dirt Work tends the ground on both sides of the calendar, keeping yards cut short and tidy in the brief summer, then plowing once winter blows in. Out here a property can sit a long way from pavement, and the work is about keeping it usable as much as keeping it handsome. In June the river bottoms shine green against tawny hills, and a newly trimmed yard joins them for a while. In January the reward is a plowed lane running straight and dark through the white, the route to the road plain to see.
