Four-thirty on a January morning, and the wind has already come down off Lookout Mountain and packed the snow hard against every north-facing curb in Golden. Sherpa Landscaping Inc is out in it — plowing drives and lots, shoveling walks down to bare concrete, laying ice control where the grade tips toward the street — so the town wakes up to a clear way out. Come April the same trucks trade blades for mowers, and the days fill with mowing, edging, trimming and the spring and fall cleanups a yard under the foothills always needs. Weather here arrives sideways and changes its mind by lunch: a chinook can strip a driveway bare, or a canyon storm can bury it twice before dark. The whole pride of it is timing — being there before the first car backs out, and there again before the second round sets.
