Everything green in Fruita runs on a schedule set by water. In April the Government Highline Canal fills and the laterals start to talk; by the middle of November the headgates close and the whole valley goes quiet. Chuck's Sprinkler Service works to that calendar — starting systems up, walking the zones, sorting out heads and lines and controllers, then blowing everything clear ahead of the first hard freeze. A sprinkler system tuned right waters the lawn and not the sidewalk, and the difference is obvious in August when the ground is trying to take it all back. Out here that is not a small thing; it is the whole reason there is a lawn at all.
