July on the high plains is dry heat and hard light, with sunflowers coming up along the fence lines outside Fountain and dust hanging behind anything that moves. A lawn out here rewards consistency more than ambition; it wants somebody who comes back on the same day, cuts at the right height and doesn't scalp it in August.
