A March snow along Sloan's Lake comes in heavy and wet, bends the branches down over the sidewalks, and is usually off the grass by afternoon, but the driveways still have to be open at six. Preferred Maintenance Co takes those mornings: plowing drives and small lots, shoveling walks and steps down to the surface, and putting de-icer where shade keeps a glaze past noon. Snow gets pushed to spots that will not block a sidewalk or refreeze across an entry. On narrow lots there is nowhere to hide a pile, so where it goes is part of the plan rather than an afterthought. First light on a finished drive, with the lake going pink behind it, is a fine way to end a shift.
