Rows of pine stand along the field edges north of Eaton, planted a lifetime ago to slow the wind, and by October they are catching the first leaves off the town's shade trees. That stretch of the year is Iron Pine Outdoor Services LLC at its busiest: fall cleanups, leaves hauled away, the last mows taken a little lower, beds cleared before the ground goes hard. Through summer the work is steadier and simpler, with weekly mowing, trimming, edging and the walks blown off before the truck pulls away. Yards on the high plains ask for patience, water, and a straight line held all the way to the end. Meeting that ask week after week is the pleasure of the thing.
