Pick Up Durango

About Pick Up Durango

Winter arrives in Durango sideways — a front stacks up on the San Juans, spills down the Animas Valley, and by closing time Main Avenue is under three inches and still going. Pick Up Durango works those hours: plowing lots and alleys, pushing back the berms the grader leaves across driveway mouths, shoveling entries and stairs, treating the slick places where shade never lets go. Smelter Mountain keeps the cold in the valley bottom for days, so what softens at noon is glass by six, and the work is as much about ice as it is about snow. The reward comes at first light — a lot squared off, curb lines showing, everyone getting where they meant to go. That is the whole trade, done in the dark so the morning looks easy.
