February in Dillon is a study in blue — blue shadows on the drifts, blue ice where a lot drains and refreezes, blue nine-thousand-foot sky over Ptarmigan Peak by noon. Elevation Seal & Fill spends that month on pavement, pushing lots back out to their painted lines, cutting windrows down so nobody has to climb a bank to reach a door, and salting the low spots that keep trying to become a skating rink. Storms up here stack rather than melt off, so a winter is really one long argument with accumulation, and the answer is turning up for each round. Walks get shoveled, entryways get opened wide, and piles go where they won't blind a driver pulling out. Come March the whole town starts running water, and that is the sound of the job finishing.
