Northeast of Delta the ground climbs toward Cedaredge in benches of orchard, and in January the peach and apple rows stand bare and orderly under a thin white cover. Western Slope Tree Services works snow in that country and down in town too — driveways, walkways and lots pushed back and opened up. The valley's storms are usually modest and occasionally not, and the not is what you plan for: the year a foot comes down overnight and every drive on the bench wants a machine. Clearing is unglamorous, physical, over-by-lunch work when it goes well. The payoff is watching somebody back out of a garage without giving it a second thought.
