At two in the morning during a storm, Dakota Ridge is orange streetlight and horizontal snow and not one soul outdoors — and that is the shift. WE THE PEOPLE ENTERPRISES plows straight through it: driveways opened, walks and entryways shoveled down to bare pavement, ice melt laid where the wind scours a path and leaves glaze behind it. Out here the snow does not simply fall, it travels, so a drive cleared at midnight can need a second pass by six, and it gets one. All that noise in the dark buys a quiet morning: somebody backs out, somebody walks the dog, nobody gives it a thought. Nobody thinking about it is the measure.
