There are nights in Crested Butte when the snow comes down so hard and flat that the streetlights lose their edges and the driveway you cleared at nine is gone by midnight. Whiteout Snow Removal works those nights — plowing, shoveling walks and entries, and sanding the slick spots so morning simply arrives without incident. By February the banks stand above the mailboxes and the marker stakes are half buried, and the craft becomes stacking and hauling snow where it will still fit. Nothing about winter here is casual, and neither is the routine: the same properties, every storm, until the piles finally give up in May. What people get out of it is a small, dependable piece of ordinary in the middle of a very big winter.
