About nine inches of rain fall on the Grand Valley in a year, less than a single wet week in some parts of the country, and yet Clifton has lawns. Every green yard here is an argument won against the climate, and it deserves to be kept up. Outpour irrigation handles the upkeep end of it: mowing on a steady cycle, trimming to the concrete, taking the cuttings off so the turf is never smothered. Cut a desert lawn a little high and a little often and it will hold its color clear into October. It is a good feeling, standing on grass that has no business being that green.
