The High Line Canal threads through Centennial with its old cottonwoods leaning over the path, and the yards nearby take their cue from it — green in the warm months, hushed and white in the cold. A Perfect Landscape works both halves of that year, mowing, edging and trimming through the growing season, then plowing and shoveling drives and walks after a storm crosses the Front Range. There is a particular satisfaction in a lawn cut in clean parallel lines while the morning is still cool, and another kind entirely in a driveway scraped down to bare concrete before the coffee is finished. Fertilizing, aeration and seasonal cleanups fill the space between. Centennial's high-plains light is honest about a yard — every edge shows — and that is exactly the point.
