A January cold snap north of town, up where the road climbs toward Garden Park and the mouth of Shelf Road, makes a dry snow that squeaks underfoot and blows into the same three drifts every time. Arrowhead Excavation clears those places in winter — long gravel drives, ranch gates, the turnarounds that a car will bury itself in before the driver has understood the problem. The trick on gravel is a blade set with some mercy, taking the snow and leaving the road. Walks and steps get shoveled by hand and treated so the shaded stretch by the porch doesn't turn into glass. Cold, early, quiet work, and the reward is a plowed line running clean out to the county road.
