Every April the mountain bluebirds come back to the fence wire out toward Dawson Butte, and the color is startling against a landscape still mostly brown. Bluebird Design & Landscape works that same turn of the year, the weeks when a Castle Rock yard decides what it is going to be. Mowing begins, edges are redrawn, beds are cleared of winter's litter, and the turf gets coaxed along until the green catches up. There is honest satisfaction in the first cut of the year — the smell of it, the sudden order. From then on the yard is kept rather than rescued.
