The first Saturday of October brings Potato Day, and Carbondale fills its streets with a parade while the cottonwoods along the river go yellow all at once. Roaring Fork Integral Services spends that stretch of the year cutting lawns one last time and raking down what the wind takes off the branches. Then the calendar flips and the work turns hard and early: plowing out driveways, clearing lots, shoveling steps and walks, putting down traction where the ice sets up overnight. Doing both means knowing the same properties in two entirely different tempers — where water pools, where drifts build, which corner always needs one more pass. It is a full year of showing up, and it shows in the ground.
