About Dardanes Tree Services

Out at Brush the land runs flat and generous to the horizon, and the only tall shade for miles is what somebody planted: the cottonwood row along the South Platte, the elms over the wide streets, the windbreak holding the line between a farmhouse and the whole open sky. Dardanes Tree Services keeps those trees in shape — trimming deadwood out of an old cottonwood, pruning young shade into a frame that will hold, taking down what a decade of dry wind has finished. Summer announces itself with a thunderhead building purple in the west by four in the afternoon, and afterward there are limbs across the lane and shingles in the grass. That's when the trucks roll: broken wood cut down and loaded, the yard raked out, the lane open before supper. On the plains a tree is somebody's whole idea of shelter, and it is worth the trouble of keeping.
