Every October Brighton runs the same quiet countdown: get the water out of the lines before the first night that stays below freezing. Calaway Sprinklers and Landscaping lives inside that countdown — blowing systems out, shutting them down, then bringing them back up in April when the ditches fill again. In between there is the lawn itself: mowing, edging, heads adjusted so the spray lands on grass instead of sidewalk. Out on the high plains a lawn is a long conversation with water, and somebody has to keep track of it. Turn a system on in spring and hear it come up even across the whole yard — that is the work showing itself.
