First light in the valley touches the Tenmile peaks long before it reaches the ground — Peak 8, then 9, then the rest, gold working its way down while town is still in shadow and cold. That is the hour Sunrise Lawn & Landscape likes to start: dew heavy, engines warming, the wetlands out at Cucumber Gulch loud with birds. Mowing and edging, aeration to open up ground that lies frozen half the year, overseeding the thin patches so they fill in ahead of the first hard frost, and cleanups at both ends of the green months. By the time the sun clears the ridge, a yard is cut, its borders crisp, the clippings gone. Small work, done early, that somebody gets to walk out into with coffee in hand.
