Cucumber Gulch comes out from under the snow in June, willow first, then the wet green that only lasts a while up here. Backcountry Landscaping does lawn mowing, trimming and edging, spring and fall cleanups, native and low-water planting, and mulching for Breckenridge yards. A high-country yard is mostly a negotiation with a ten-week growing season, thin soil, and afternoon rain that arrives on schedule in July. Beds get built for what actually lives at 9,600 feet, and the mower holds a straight line wherever the grade allows one. By August the yard reads like it belongs to the gulch behind it rather than to a catalog.
