Look west from Berthoud and the ground tips up — hogbacks first, then the road climbing toward Carter Lake, then the real mountains standing behind it all. Storms come apart on those slopes and reassemble over town as wind, so January here is less a question of depth than of where the wind decides to put things. Bolderscapes works with that: plowing driveways and lots on the lee side twice, breaking the drifts that set at gate posts, keeping the walks and stairs scraped to bare surface with ice melt where the north shade never lets go. The reward is a clean approach at first light with the foothills going pink above it. Snow that behaves badly still has to leave.
